Xbox speech and privacy

To improve Xbox’s ability to recognize your pronunciation, Microsoft collects speech info when you interact with your Xbox by speaking.

When we collect info to help make your device work better for you, it’s our goal to make sure you’re informed so you can make the right choices about how and when this info is used.

To use Cortana and dictation, you must select the privacy setting for Speech, Let Xbox and Cortana collect my speech info. Cortana and speech services exist both in the cloud and your Xbox, and the info Microsoft collects from these services in turn helps improve them. Speech services that don’t rely on the cloud and only work on your device, such as speech recognition, will still work when this setting is turned off. However, Microsoft won’t collect any speech info without your consent.
